San Pedro de Atacama is a small town with only 4x4 streets. It's full of tourists, tour agencies and restaurants. All you do here is eat, go daytripping and hang around waiting for your next daytrip.
It's a jungle of tour agencies, and everybody offers the same deal, so it's hard to figure out whom to choose.
This is what we did:
Daytrips from San Pedro de Atacama
We did Valle de la Luna and Geysir de Tatio with Andes travels, and were very happy with them. Space is suppose to be the best agency to go on an astronomy tour with - they are a bit more expensive, but they have 10 telescopes - yeah!
3 day trip Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia.
And after reading a lot of reviews, in the tourist office and online, we booked a 3-day Salar de Uyuni with Estrella de Sur - hopefully we'll be happy with them, we don't know yet.

Where to stay:
We stayed at Hostel Rural. A really nice hostel, with a great hang-out area.
How to get there:
There are overnight buses from Valparaiso and Santiago, 24hour.
