First stop in Asia - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
We arrived in the evning and headed straight to the hostel. We knew nothing about Kuala Lumpur or Malaysia in general, we did not know how we wanted to spend our two weeks, or how to get around the country. So the first night we spent planning the next weeks, with a lot of help from the friendly receptionist at Central Lodge hostel.
With the receptionist help, an old Malaysian guy, we decided to stay two days in Kuala Lumpur, before heading north to Perhentien Island, which is really paradise.

Kuala Lumpur is a great place to start in Asia. The city is a cultural and architectural melting pot, with Indian, Malay and Chinese influence. You walk between temples, mosques and churches which are squeezed in between skyscrapers, huge mansions and fancy mega-malls. Theres alot of sounds, people, smells and colors when walking in the streets.
On the markets you can buy handbags, watches, shades, shoes, clothes for a throwaway price. You´ll find fruits, drinks and souvenirs all over.

Walking through on of KL´s many markets. |
There are Chinese and Hindu temples around the city, which attract hundreds of people every day. We visited the modern National Mosque, and the more classic Masjid Jamek.

When visiting temples you had to borrow clothes and hijab to cover up. |

We bought a two-day hop on hop of bus ticket through Kuala Lumpur, but ended up walking around instead. It seemed easier, since we always lost the busses, and we got to see alot. We walked from the National Mosque, to Masjid Jamek and Merdeka Square, through China Town and Little India.
Ofcourse we ended up getting lost alot, and spent a lot of time looking at the map.
Nearby Masjid Jamek and Merdeka Square is little India. India is one of Malaysia´s priamry ethnic groups, and Little India is really India in miniature, with all the sights, sounds and smells. Since we loooove Indian food, this was definitly our lunch spot.
More sightseeing.
Rain and thunderskies made us stop drink beer and play scrabble at this cosy cafe one evning.
The rained finally stopped. But by then it was dark. We decided to walk down, and found a great place to take pictures with the amazing Petronas Towers.
