D A Y   176 - 179:   P A L O M I N O

Date: 21-24 may

To be honest, I got a little bored in Palomino. We were on this beautiful beach, stayed in a dream of a hostel, which was clean and got everything a backpacker want; air condition, a big pool, a pool table, sun beds, a beautiful garden, breakfast in the morning, a bar, lots of backpackers.
The hostel was close to a beach restaurant which served the best fresh fish and shrimp meals we had tasted that far in South America, and a cute little cafe with organic chocolate pancakes, fresh lemonade and the biggest sandwich I`d ever seen.
It took us two minutes to walk from the hostel to a wide, sandy beach, almost empty of people and with a palm-line along the seafront. One of the prettiest beaches I`d seen in South America.
We woke up in the mornings, had a morning swim, had an omelet and a cup of coffee, we went to the beach, read some in our books and went for "chocolate-pancake with lemonade" lunch. We ended the day with a perfect seafood meal, and a beer in the bar, chatting with people from all over the world.
And I got bored?? Typical traveling problem, I was used to seeing and doing so much, I ended up getting bored easily. Right now,  I would do everything to go back to Palomino, to have a couple of days on the beach, eat some seafood, do nothing, read a book - and I would have loved it!
Palomino was paradise.

Where to stay: Stay at the dreamers hostel. Its a big, spacious hostel, with a pool! A luxury backpacker hostel. Its a bit expensive for a backpackers budget, 25000p (80nok), but definitely worth it! (You can also get a hammock on the beach for 5000 or 10000p)

How to get there:
From Santa Marta: Flag down one of the public buses outside the Shopping Mall in Santa Marta. Tell the driver to let you of in Palomino. 8000p one way (30nok).
