Aurlandsdalen is a 40km long valley located in Aurland in Sogn and Fjordande in Norway. The valley are visited by many trekkers each year because of its dramatic mountain sceneray, and the beautiful scenic walk.
You can either go up through the valley from Vassbygdi to Østerbø, or walk down the valley, as we did, from Østerbø to Vassbygdi.
You can park your car in the bottom of the valley "Vassbygdi", and take a bus to the top "Østerbø", and from there you can walk your way back to your car through the valley.
Obs! The bus is only going from Vassbygdi to Østerbø once in the morning, check online or at your hotel/camping lot for information. (We missed our bus, and had to drive to the top, walk down the valley, take the afternoon bus up to the top again, and drive down. A small detour one might say)
The bustrip to Østerbø is a great trip it selfs, it is one of the worlds longest road tunnels, and the views (outside the tunnels) are spectacular!
From Østerbø you see a sign for Aurlandsdalen, and from there it is easy to find your way through the valley. Follow the red T´s, aswell as there is signs telling you how far you walked and how far you have left, every kilometer.

Aurlandsdalen is one of Norways most beautiful and most popular hiking trips. That is because during this hike you get to see some great famous, and typical Norwegian nature. You hike through some extremly flat parts, aswell as some extremly narrow and steep.

Vetlahelvete - a huge pothole in Aurlandsdalen filled with water. |
The trip takes around 6-8 hours, depends on how many breaks you take and how fast you walk. During these hours you get to walk through a lot of different nature, rocky landscapes to almost flat valleys. You get some great views, and amazing lunchbreaks. You walk by waterfalls, and you can eat wild blueberrys and strawberrys along the road.

The hike goes through the valley in changing nature, but most of the time it follows this river
