D A Y   62:   B A C K P A C K E R S   O N   F I R S T   C L A S S

Right now we're sitting on a 24 hour bus from Valparaiso to San Pedro de Atacama. The bus is delayed, ofcourse. And it smells like pee, since we have the seats all the way in the back, closest to the toilet.
Of those 24 (soon likely to be 25) hours, we got one cracker and one hamburgerbread with a piece of ham. We been outside once. Its been a rollercoaster of hot and cold, since the driver clearly dont know how the aircondition works. So its been a lot of on and off with clothes.
And to make everything better for 10 of those hours, we had two babies screaming in the seats right behind us.

Cramped in the taxi to the bus station
Waiting for the bus to arrive
And this is not our first 24 hour bus, we had maybe 8 of them, and one 35 hour bus (not to mention all of the 4-6-8-10-12 hour buses). Imagine 35 hours in a bus, thats 2,5 roundtrip to New York from Oslo.
This is an 35-hour-bus scenario: You go on the bus, have a late dinner, sleep in a chair, wake up in the chair, have breakfast in the chair, hang around in the chair (you get it, you dont leave the chair for 35hour), then lunch, dinner and sleep again, before breakfast the next morning and then... the trip is soon over. Thats a lomg time on a bus.

You have  a lot of time to read on a 35 hour bus

One of our better meals. jum.

In the sleepingbags, ready for night 2

Or even more fun, when you have a long bustrip and a boarder crossing. So in addition to being bored on the bus you now have to add waiting in line behind 40 other people to get a stamp leaving the country, drive the bus 5 more min, grab all your stuff, go of the bus, scan your luggage, before waiting in line behind 40 people again to get a stamp entering the country.

Not lucky with the bus from Argentina to Chile. A border crossing + two stupid ladies
in the front making it cramped for Camilla and Glenn

How do we survive you ask? At the moment Im not sure.
I guess its the fact that we love backpacking, we love having the freedom to just jump on the next bus and go to the next city/mountain/beach whatever. We dont know what the next week, or the next day, will bring.
And ofcourse - we have a great sleeping heart.

Thanks you Glenn, for capturing the moment
